One Silent Night Distinguished newscaster, the late Walter Cronkite, was the special guest for the Choir's 2002 Christmas Concert. A highlight of the program was his narration of "Silent Night, Holy Night," the story of the Christmas Truce of 1914. Preserved for all time in this recording, we present it here on A Golden Christmas. 12:30 The Storyteller: "The Last Noel" From the WERG archives: the story of a very special Christmas, as told by former Gannon College professor, Dr. John Rouch. During the seventies, Dr. Rouch hosted a series on WERG called The Storyteller, narrating tales spun-out of his real-life experiences. “The Last Noel” was originally broadcast over WERG on Dec 18, 1973. With grateful appreciation to Skip Niebauer of American Artist Studio in Erie for this digital restoration. 1am Dani’s Christmas Favorites One of our graduates, Dani was a DJ on 90.5 WERG and loves Christmas music. She compiled the music for this program, which she scripted and produced, for an edition of Radio Roulette in December 2019. We preserved the recordings and now present an encore presentation of it here. 4am Handel’s Messiah! 5am The Bells of Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. Heartland Public Radio - NET - Branson, MO hpr.org/HPR3: Heartland Christmas Channel - Runs November 1, 2023 through Monday, January 1, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Central HPR Channel 3 is a seasonal channel featuring Classic Country, Western, and Bluegrass Christmas favorites. It usually begins broadcasting on November 1st and continues through the end of New Year’s Day each holiday season.

With a libretto by Langston Hughes, this Christmas cantata focuses on Balthazar, the dark-skinned king who journeyed to Bethlehem to witness the birth of Jesus Christ. This gorgeous work is beautifully interpreted by New York City-based The Dessoff Choirs and Orchestra, soloists soprano Laquita Mitchell, mezzo-soprano Lucia Bradford, and tenor Noah Stewart with Malcolm J. Merriweather at the podium. Today, Kwanzaa is still celebrated by not only Afro-Americans, but Black people around the globe! In this broadcast, Garrett McQueen offers a background on the history of Kwanzaa and its guiding principles, alongside musical selections that highlight the spirit of the celebration. The show features the compositions of Florence Price, Duke Ellington, Sean O’Loughlin, and special performances by Imani Winds. The Bach Hour with Brian McCreath will celebrate the season with recordings of Johann Sebastian Bach's compositions tailored to the season each Sunday at 6 am on CRB Classical 99.5. This season's selections range from Bach's Cantata No. 62, a piece written for the quiet meditation of Advent, to a performance of Cantata No. 190, "Sing to the Lord a New Song," on New Year's Day. GBH 89.7 FM will present special programming for the holidays as well. On December 24, the station will air seasonal Jazz selections from 6-8 pm. From 8 pm to midnight, Christmas Eve with Oedipus returns, taking listeners on a journey through some of the most spectacular and rarely heard holiday music listeners have never heard, rare tracks from rock, hip hop, classical, spoken word, ethereal, and more. The show culminates in Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" at midnight. Christmas Eve with Oedpius has aired on 89.7 FM and streamed on wgbh.org every year since 2015. Throughout December, Jazz on 89.7 FM will offer season selections under the banner of Hot Jazz for your Cold Nights. On Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 8 pm, The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square join award-winning artists Lea Salonga and Sir David Suchet for the uplifting Christmas special, Season of Light: Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir. The presentation is followed by Quentin Blake's Clown, a half-hour animated special focusing on the Christmas Eve adventures of a discarded toy clown. On Monday, Dec. 18, at 9 pm, the iconic food journalist Mary Berry explores her Scottish heritage and cooks up some indulgent dishes on Mary Berry's Highland Christmas. On Thursday, Dec. 21, at 9 pm, GBH 2 airs Anthony Williams' Urban Nutcracker, followed by Beyond the Stage: The Urban Nutcracker, Community & the Arts, a companion look at this beloved ballet tradition in Boston. He and his people kept the Pilgrims from starving in the early years of their settlement, attended the first Thanksgiving, and forged a peace treaty with the English that lasted 40 years until his death. We'll talk with American Indian scholars Darius Coombs and Bob Charlesbois, who'll fill in the details of this Native American leader's attempt to make peace for his people and with the new strangers.
