WGN Radio 720 - The Voice of Chicago wgnradio.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=38421&Itemid=110From the web page: Holiday Programming A WGN Christmas Carol The WGN Radio Family performs the Charles thingyens classic. (40:55) - Or use the audio player below: Christmas Newscast What if modern radio newsgathering techniques were available over 2000 years ago? This classic recording offers one possibility of how coverage of the first Christmas might have sounded. (14:31) (The Christmas Newscast was originally produced in 1969, the creation of newswriter Jim Disch and host thingy Lashbrook. Disch was just beginning what would be a 30-plus year career with Tribune Company. The recording heard here is a slightly revised version produced in 1976. Among the voices on the segment are Carl Greyson, Jim Loughman, Orion Samuelson, Max Armstrong, and Floyd Brown. According to Disch, "I wrote and produced it because I thought it would be a meaningful Christmas message which would work best on radio, a medium that can capitalize on the listener's imagination. The response from listeners (calls and letters) the first time it aired was more than I ever expected.") It's a Wonderful Slice of "It's a Wonderful Life" Mike Nowak presents his less-than-ten-minute express version of the classic holiday film. (12:10) Turn Your Knob to Bob's Christmas Special Bob Collins' final Christmas special, recorded in December, 1999. (55:13) Christmas Is... with Carl Greyson A classic mix of words and music. (24:18)

One of my top five all time favorite radio shows, “American Routes” has revamped their web site. Part of the new look is show archives for listening! That includes ALL the Christmas shows back to 1998! As of right now shows are available only back to 2005. Since previous years of the show are shown in the archives, I assume “AR” has plans to include them for online listening later. I have an e-mail query in but have not heard anything in reply. americanroutes.publicradio.org/archives/for_date/2005-12 To choose other shows just follow the month and year format, choose a show, and listen. All the shows are good, even if they aren’t Christmas!
